Young Talent Attracted to Cyberwarfare

Young Talent Attracted to Cyberwarfare

A new niche has been created in the field of weapon development, but this time, it’s virtual.

The new need for protection against cyberwarfare has given rise to thousands of “hacker soldiers” within the Pentagon, CNET reports.

Additionally, almost all of the largest military companies, such as Lockheed Martin and General Dynamics, now have cyber contracts with both military and intelligence agencies.

There are now advertisements running in search of “cyberninjas”, with labs full of computer experts that are only in their 20s and 30s.

Where did this sudden interest in cyberwarfare come from? When did this happen?

Just last Friday, President Obama discussed how cyber wars are “one of the most serious economic and national security challenges we face as a nation,” and with companies like McAfee releasing new spyware detection software, everyday folk and researchers alike must be prepared for attempted attacks.

Now, adding cyberwarfare specialists to the list of personnel involved in electronic warfare, the number of people involved rises to as high as 88,700!

This up and coming field offers more jobs, positions, and innovation to be had.

Grab your armor.

Going green with the electric car: predictions for the automotive industry

Going green with the electric car: predictions for the automotive industry

In a previous blog, I mentioned entrepreneurial trailblazer Shai Agassi, who currently is advocating the usage of electric cars and electric charge grids to ease our oil dependence.

Looks like more people are picking up on this trend as more time progresses, with CNET reporting that 2011 will be the year of the electric car.

Agassi’s organization, Better Place, previously announced the Renault-Nissan partnership to further their goal towards sustainability and reducing CO2 emissions.

Now, companies like Mitsubishi and Ford are following in their footsteps.

Automakers seek to create vehicles that will get up to 100 miles to the gallon, so that the cost of purchasing an electric car will not seem as hefty.

With the goal of having these cars readily available for purchase by 2011, the automotive industry is changing it’s course, and fast.

McAfee to the rescue: start fighting cybercrime from your desktop

McAfee to the rescue: start fighting cybercrime from your desktop

When your house has been broken into, there is proof that a physical crime has taken place.

When you are a victim of cybercrime, the signs are not as obvious.

McAfee hopes to end the victimization with the creation of their “Cybercrime Response Unit,” which will allow users to install fraud alerts if they choose to do so, and how to move forward if they have been attacked.

Since so many internet users constantly get hit with worms or other malware on a regular basis, a site that attempts to provide useful information and scanning programs to run on your computer seems long overdue.

Elinor Mills from CNET discusses how the McAfee Cybercrime Response Unit “provides the electronic equivalent of hand holding for consumers as they try to figure out whether they have been victimized and what to do if they have been.”

After all, everyone needs a little TLC from time to time, right?

You can check the Cybercrime Response Unit out here.
